If you didn't want to read about Covid-19 again today, you're not in luck. To be honest, Covid-19 has had the largest impact on social media than anything I have ever witnessed. Memes and content related to the virus come on a global scale. This isn't just limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram - apps such as Ifunny, Reddit, and a large volume of videos on YouTube all have content either covering the virus or trying to remain light-hearted in this time of unease. First and foremost, I don't want to sound apathetic to anyone who is affected or has had love ones affected by the virus. I wouldn't have written about this topic as a Global Trend because of the fear of misrepresenting the subject, however, one article from Northeaster.edu put my fears at ease. That article is titled: " One way to predict the spread of Covid-19? Follow the memes ." Before continuing on, read the article because it brings up many encouraging points that can at least b...

Video Surveillance and Law Enforcement

"The body camera is not to actually punish cops, its to find out what actually happened."                                                                                                                                                                    - Cenk Uygur, The Young Turks In certain communities and groups of people, there seems to be a fear associated with police in the United States of America. It is a fear of maltreatment from law enforcement agents on a basis of race, nationality, gender, or any other discerning factor that would be considered a hate crime. On the a...

Advertising Analysis

Most people who use YouTube have not purchased YouTube Premium or have an AdBlocker that removes advertisements on their videos. This means that the average user has to sit through ads at the beginning of the videos they stream and most likely during the videos they stream as well. There is a multitude of these ads, but it feels like I'm only receiving "Mike Bloomberg for President" advertisements on every video I watch. And of course, many of these advertisements are monetized to where the content creator will receive a small portion of the ads worth with YouTube taking the larger cut - but there is a form of advertisement where no money goes to YouTube. These videos have what is called "Paid Promotion". A video that has a paid promotion is where the content creator will advertise for a company that is not owned by the content creator in return for payment. There are many different ways that these companies will contact the content creators, but its usually...

Smart Phones have become a basic necessity for the average American. In fact, over 96% of Americans own a cell phone . Everyone knows the importance of their cellphone, but to really consider the fact that it functions as both your cellular device and a computer really brings it home. For work purposes, you can call, text, send and receive emails, and use a host of apps that can do things as simple as allowing you to sign documents or as brilliant as hosting a meeting with multiple people while viewing what is on their computer. For your personal life, it gives entertainment, it can teach you how to make or fix something, and it gives a sense of protection while you are out and about. If you really want an upgrade on your current smartphone, there are two big things to consider. First, is the features. Is it actually better than your current device or is it just the new phone. Second is the cost - is it really worth spending so much money on something you "sort of"...

There are many things that catch a consumer's eye: the idea of prosperity, love, sex, fashion. something that should be considered is things that are cute. This should only be disregarded when it's about things that are subjectively cute, like a little ugly dog or reptiles - these things do not always elicit a positive response. You know what has been proven through evolution to be cute? People love babies It goes back to what I just mentioned: evolution . So many different factors of our evolutionary design come to people adoring babies. It all stems from human babies being unable to protect themselves or run away. Most other species of mammals are functionally capable shortly after birth. Human babies have to be protected by other people. Human babies have to be cute in order to survive Now, babies are on the rise in media! What makes this list unique is that every single baby on this list is NOT human. These babies are on TV, on the movie screen, and on commercials. Th...

Most people enjoy television, which can easily be proven with statistics across both home television and streaming services. There are an estimated 120.6 million TV households in the United States. World wide, there are almost 170 million subscribers to Netflix with 61 million of these subscribers coming from the United States. Yet, I don't fit into either of these categories. I do not watch any TV or streaming services I don't enjoy television because I feel as though I don't have the time to be attached to a show. I don't enjoy movies - the rare trip to Cinemark is the only time I watch a movie. Even then, I put research into the film I want to see before I travel to watch it. Where do I spend my screen time? Almost 100% of my screen time is with the red play button on the top left corner of my browser. YouTube is the forefront of all my video entertainment needs. I wholeheartedly enjoy watching videos on the site and have become a fan of many content creat...
